The human remains found in Wyoming’s national park were confirmed Tuesday as Gabriel Petito, according to the FBI, which also said the manner of death had been defined as a homicide.

The FBI said in a statement that the remains found Sunday were taken to the Teton County Coroner’s Office, where a forensic investigation confirmed Petito’s identity and manner of death. The agency said the exact cause of death was still awaiting a final autopsy.

Michael Schneider, the special agent in charge of the FBI in Denver, said in a statement that anyone with information about Brian Laringer, Ms. Petito, who is said to be interested in the case, will contact the agency. Do.

“The FBI and our allies are working to ensure that everyone responsible for or involved in Ms. Petito’s death is held accountable,” Schneider said.

The FBI also announced Tuesday that a forensic search of the camp where Ms. Petito was found to have been completed. The FBI also said anyone staying at the Aug. 27-30 campsite should contact the agency.

The wreck was found at Spread Creek Campground in Bridger-Teton National Forest on the eastern border of Grand Teton National Park.
