NEW DELHI, 15 November (IANS) After the air gunners, it was the air gunners turn as India took all available gold medals on day six of the 15th Asian Air Rifle Championships in Daegu, Korea.
Shiva Narwal won the men’s 10m air gun while Sagar Dangi won junior gold. Moreover, both the boys and girls teams won their respective events to get the gold medal for India on the fourth day. They now have 17 gold medals from the competition so far.
Shiva defeated Korean veteran Park Daehun in the men’s air pistol final, beating him 17-13 in close quarters. He also has a Korean number in the rankings, where he topped the list with 253.7. Park is far behind in second place with 250.2. Vijayveer Sidhu of India also took bronze after finishing third overall with 248.0.
Asian Airgun Championship
It was 2-1 for India in the junior air gun as Sagar Dangi beat Samrat Rana by the same margin 17-13 to win gold. Muhammad Kamalov of Uzbekistan took bronze.
India’s third gold medal came in the men’s 10m air gun as trio Sandeep Bishnoi, Sahil and Amit Sharma beat the Korean team 16-8 in a gold medal bout.
The fourth and final gold of the day came in the women’s 10 meters youth air gun event, where Kanishka Dagar, Yashsavi Joshi and Harnavdeep Kaur beat the other home team Korea 16-10 in the final match.
Earlier Monday, Sandeep Bishnoi also won gold in the men’s youth 10m air pistol when he beat Veniamin Nikitin 16-8 of Uzbekistan in a title match.
With three days of competition remaining, India has won 28 medals, including 18 gold, six silver and four bronze in a show of absolute dominance in continental air sports events.
